SHY HOUSE

2019,DRAKENSBERG, SOUTH AFRICA

The SHY House, is perched on the Southern edge on the first plateau north of the valley and over-looks splendid views into the mountains. This is a one-bedroom unit which follows similar principles to the DAM house but is a quaint off-grid hideaway where one is tucked into a dwarfed, broad-leaf beechwood forest and hear the Spitsberg stream rushing below.

A single stone cavity wall carries the entire structure of the house. Specialised trusses will tie the base of the house back to the shear stone wall and create a floating effect above the sloping landscape. This allows it to hover over the valley on the south and west and meets the flat plateau on the north for easy access and optimal natural light.
